Pretty Birds Jewellery GIVEAWAY

Pretty Birds are back on Sophie Slim! It's a pleasure, really. Pretty Birds were the first small business to advertise with Sophie Slim and have been a huge Sisterhood supporter ever since! I love em, love em I do!

In fact, when Lee saw a picture of my little Sisterhood office area she sent me a photo of this necklace that she had made and sells in her online store and asked if I'd like to give it away to one of my readers. She's thoughtful like it.

It's my Sisterhood mantra, the strong words sum up who I would like to be as a woman, one of strength and dignity with the ability and lightness to laugh without fear. These words can be found in Proverbs 31, a beautiful chapter of The Bible that leaves much to be desired for my own life.

Proverbs 31:25  "She is clothed in strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future".  Attached to the quote is a small image of a magnolia flower, a flower that symbolises dignity; and a swallow charm, signifying freedom (from fear).  The lucky winner is able to choose either an antique bronze or antique silver setting.

This would make a perfect Christmas gift for someone in your life, or could adorn your own neck and provide a reminder of strength and courage.

**Giveaway now closed - Congratulations Angyla!**

Intro: Homestitchness and a Giveaway!

I really wanted to introduce you to my new love, Homestitchness and to tell you about her giveaway (at the end of the post)! I have fallen head over heels for these designs!

I was in contact with Jenny at the beginning of this year when she told me about her plans to start her business selling her cross stitch designs. I've dabbled in cross-stitch in the past so have a love and appreciation for the art, but I know there are some pretty daggy designs out there.

Jenny's designs blew me away when I finally laid my eyes on them!! As a kiwi living away from home (she's now based in the USA) she has completely channelled her love of Aotearoa and embroidery floss to create these iconic, collectable cross stitch designs.

They are perfectly reminiscent of the Kiwi summer, homes and landscape and would look great in my home. I love the series of little cottages - they are the perfect mix of colonial and Maori. Much like our own whanau, actually.

The fabulous thing is she sells them in her Etsy store and they are sent to you on high quality cardstock and are shipped world wide for free. I haven't seen them in person yet but I imagine the pattern alone could be framed and displayed like a piece of art.

(Pohutukawa House) (Possibly my fav!! Whats yours?)

The exciting thing is to celebrate, Jenny is giving away 2 opportunities to win a pattern of your choice! The first winner will get a full kit with pattern, floss and linen, the second will get a pattern of their choice.

All you need to do is visit the Homestitchness blog and enter!!!

If you've never cross stitched before this is the perfect opportunity to start, or pick up some skills learnt a long time ago. The patterns come with detailed instructions on how to create the piece, and you'll be able to hang it with pride in your Kiwi Home.

Thanks Jenny!

Intro to Unfolding Hope

Recently a group of incredibly generous and talented women have been gathering in secret, planning and scheming ways that they could create, donate and save.

Now is the time to reveal all, and I will be doing so over the course of the month, this definitely wont be the last time you will hear about Unfolding Hope from me. Miriam is the brain behind the whole thing and I have been one of her many helpers and over time this cause has become quite close to my heart.

In short, Miriam is raising funds to donate to Free The Slaves; an American organisation that is freeing slaves all over the world. It is a sad reality that this is still happening and if you let it sit for a while, I'm sure it will stir your heart into action. Just take a moment to think about it; Slaves. In 2012. I know.

If you're already on board you can donate through the link on the right of my page --->

For every $10 you donate you'll go in the draw to win something from the prize pool. Companies and talented people right across New Zealand have donated their goods to be up for grabs (I know!! This is a BIG deal). You can view whats available here on Miriams blog. New prizes are being added all the time.

Like us on Facebook too. There you'll be kept up to date with how much has been raised already and what goodies you could be winning.

Giveaway Winner!

Congratulations Lotti!

Leonie is an awesome reader of my blog, I'm so stoked she won - and she might actually wear it! Double yay! :)

You know how sometimes you get really inspired by things? You come up with an idea, it works wonderfully, you have all this inspiration and ideas. Well, that happens often with me, and all the times it works out and everything goes well.

Well, that didn't happen for this sale. Honestly, my heart wasn't in it. I knew it would flop. I put hardly any time or effort into it. And. It shows. In the past when I have done these types of things I have been so inspired and everything sells really well and theres heaps of interest. This time, I just wasn't feeling it. You know?

So, I'm actually really excited about most of these things not selling. It means I can keep some for myself and use some to give away to dear people who compliment them. I've had a few compliments on my brooches I wear and I keep thinking "I'd love to give one to them!" But then I think "No, I'm saving them to sell". Bah. It's only a couple of dollars. No point being pathetic right. I would rather be generous.

I dont often do these types of honest posts. Not try to trick you into buying anything really. It's not about making money (because its only a few dollars). It's about creating things and going through the whole process and getting such a thrill out of it. And its about being generous.

:)

Guess the birthdate and win!

**Giveaway now closed!! Awaiting a winner**

Today (August 3rd) marks one calendar month until our due date of MiniMoo (September 3rd) so I thought it was time I got some interaction happening on this blog with some friendly competition!

What do you win? This lovely design by Half Full Design printed on A3 heavy cardstock and shipped to you. International entries welcome :)

How do you win? Leave a comment on this post with a) MiniMoos birthdate guess. b) A weight guess for good measure* and c) Your email address.

The winner will be chosen based off the correct birthdate and will be contacted via email :)

Some info that might influence your birthdate guess:
  • My last missed period puts my due date as September 3rd 2011
  • My sonography scans put my due date as August 31st 2011
  • My midwife is going off September 3rd as it means if I go late then I have a few extra days up my sleeve before I get any pressure to be "intervened" with.
  • I have had no early labour signs yet
  • My womb size is perfectly on track for gestation (they measure it and compare it to the number of weeks you are. Typically, if I am 35 weeks pregnant (which I am) my womb size should be 35cm in length, give or take 3cm either way. Currently, it's 34cm. Perfecto!)
  • From 37 weeks I am considered "Full Term" and could give birth any time from then to 42ish weeks. They bang your due date in the middle.
  • Statistically first time pregnancies run past their due date

For Funsies, the weight guess:

  • My pre-pregnancy weight was 65kgs. I lost 5kgs in the first trimester and now weigh in at 73kgs. Total gain: 8kgs.
  • I'm tall, like, 5'11".
  • Graeme is tall, like, 6'
  • I dont know how much I weighed as a baby but it was nothing out of the ordinary.
  • The average weight for a new born is 7.5 pounds. (3.4kgs)

Leave a comment with your name, guesses and email address! Good luck :)

*Good measure - Get it? Too funny.
**please note: Half Full Designs has not sponsored this give away but they have consented to it**
