Happy 2 Year Anniversary To Us!

2 years ago Graeme and I were married on a ridiculously melting hot day in a berry farm in Christchurch.

The day was perfect, we laughed, toasted, kissed, celebrated, danced and enjoyed our friends and families blessings.

2 years later we have learnt so much more about each other, are a tad more weathered in our relationship, and are looking forward expectantly to the next 2 (to 80) years.

I wish I could show you more original photos from our wedding day but my uploader isn't working, so I've had to reuse these.

Sophies News

Because I am seriously lacking inspiration, and because I have had multiple people ask me if I'm okay or not due to my lack of blogging recently, I thought  I would update you with a bullet point list of what's going on it.

  • I still have an ear infection, although its MUCH MUCH better, and I have now been put on 3 different perscriptions for it. Silly doctors. I wish Dan Mafi was here, surely he would know what it is.
  • I am addicted to Coco-pops. They really do taste like a chocolate milkshake only crunchy.
  • Graeme and I have left our old house and moved in with his parents. Before you ask why 1) We couldn't find a nice house in time (a. they were either scumdog or b. crazy expensive) 2) We get to save some money in the mean time and 3) His parents are awesome.
  • I am unemployed again, and have been for a number of weeks. It turns out after telling my employers in the application, the interview, on the phone when they offered me the job and when I had started working that I couldn't work Sundays and they assured me that was fine... It really wasn't fine.
  • Graeme and I have booked flights to the Gold Coast in March to see family and have a holiday. So excited for this.
  • Before then though, we are going to the Your Best Life conference in Auckland in February - join us! I seriously can't wait.
  • I am soaking up summer, because I seriously loathe winter, so am about to go for a walk in the sunshine.
  • I just read the book Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, it was long winded and far too detailed, but all in all a good read.
  • If you have any better books to suggest to me, let me know! I went to the library the other day intending to rent some good literature but got overwhelmed. Next time I will go with a list.
  • Somehow I need to find my creative grove and then I will be back blogging as per usual. I am sure you will notice when this happens. Perhaps some sunshine and yarn will help?
Love you all, stay cool x

Generally speaking, I am a sinner who is a lier, a complainer, self focused and with an ego by nature.

Despite all of this, I am trying to be a person of integrity in everything I do because a lot of the times I fail at this.

As Christians most of us have not grasped the fact that what we say and do directly comes from what we really believe and think.

Although to do this on our own would be considered works based, I am aiming to do this with God as my convictor.

I am praying that he would open my eyes and help me to be a better person and to represent him well.

[I believe that it is important to constantly evaluate the fruits of salvation in your life and to do something about the results. If you are lacking in this area as I am, or any other area, I hope you pray too.]

My Ear Tampon

Last night Graeme took me to the Hospital (my first ever visit!!) to get my ear checked out. I know it seems really silly, and like something I should just get over, but it honestly felt like the death of me.

I now have an ear wick inserted (I would rather call it ear tampon) which was a tiny thin piece of some type of absorbent something. The doc inserted it into my ear, and when Graeme adds the ear drops it expands and soaks them all up so they will actually stay in my ear (because its so swollen, Doc didn't think the ear drops would even get in on their own).

Right now the tampon is hurting like anything, it feels like I have a fist in my ear, my jaw and head and face is sore, so I cant lye down, eat or talk properly, and my balance is off so I feel like I'm going to throw up all the time.

*sigh* I really am a big baby, but as long as I have a willing husband who takes care of me I think thats okay.

A SadFace Rant

Last night someone walked through our front door, swiped my hand bag and my flatmate's wallet off the kitchen table, and left without closing the door again.

How rude! They could have at least closed the door, considering it was cold and raining.

We also think they may have tried to start our car, because it has a very tricky ignition and mysteriously Graeme's car keys were on the passenger seat in the morning.

Thieves annoy me.

Thankfully I had pulled my cellphone out of my bag in the wee early hours of the morning and all our costly worldly possessions were in our room with us (2 Mac books, and iPhone and a Fender guitar)

Also, I'm not feeling very well today. I have something in my ear (apimpleperhaps?) that has swollen and it huuuurts. I'm a big baby when it comes to pain. I can't hear out my left ear and its putting me off balance and making me feel nauseous. So I have also been crying and spewing today.

Sadface rant over.

I Do What I Do When I Do What I Do

I encounter 2 main questions when people want to talk about my blog, here I answer them.

Q: Do you mind people reading your blog and asking you about it in real life?
A: Not at all. Ever since ever I have had some form of online blog - Open Diary, Live Journal, Wordpress, and now Blogger. My blogs change with me, and I move on and grow up from what I have written, but I still love going back to the posts and reading who I am and how I am where I am now. I have no particular aim in blogging except to record my life, so I really don't mind if people don't find it interesting, dont read it, or don't care. But because it's my life, I will get upset if someone hassles my blog (that hasn't happened yet... don't be the first.). Also, it is true that a lot of people ask me about my BlogLand in EarthLand, I think this is totally acceptable too. Society is at the stage now where the internet blurs with real life. There was a day when my blogs would be under fake names, private, or hidden from the world but I am who I am and these days I aim to be a person of integrity in everything I do. So hopefully, you get the real me on Sophie Slim, and also in person. Also, its great for accountability. Especially when I have done experiments like when I tried to live as if I only had 30 days left, or more recently when I am struggling with my SED (Selective Eating Disorder). Lots of people will ask me what I have eaten that day, and when they do I feel noticed, valued, looked out for, and accountable.

Q: Why is your blog called Sophie Slim?
A: Its a word play with my name. It has nothing to do with my figure or the content of my blog. Its just fun :)

If you have any other questions about this blog (or anything) leave me a comment and I will be happy to answer them in future posts :)

Responsibility, what's that?

Let me be the first to say it has been AMAAAAZING having Graeme home for a holiday, myself on a (almost) holiday and with absolutely no agenda.

For the first time in a long time, I feel like I am free to make any choices I want, get up when I want, vacuum when I want, do what ever I want when I want.

Being selfish in this way feels amazing, and I know it is limited but while it's happening why not enjoy it?

So today we are going to Westport. See you when we get back. I hope you are all enjoying your holidays.

Dearest husband,

I love having you around home. Wouldn't it be nice if we could do this everyday? I feel like these past 2 weeks have been great for us, and I realise now how important it is to have family time and take a break from the everyday. Family holidays will be scheduled in the future :) I'm looking forward to this next week and the other adventures it holds for us. Love doing life with you Moo Moo!

Love, Sophie
